Most of my designs are inspired by insects. By shifting people’s focus to the beauty of these amazing creatures, I hope to inspire curiosity ahead of fear.
Luke Abbot has been a favourite designer at Bowerbird for many years. His unique jewellery is fascinatingly intricate, tactile, and beautiful.
Luke participated in an exchange program at the Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Shibuya, Japan which inspired him to begin designing and making his own pieces. He uses a diverse range of traditional metalworking techniques as well as more modern 3D printing and laser-cutting technology.
As a country boy from NSW, his work reflects his love for the small details of the natural world.
“Most of my designs are inspired by insects. By shifting people’s focus to the beauty of these amazing creatures, I hope to inspire curiosity ahead of fear.”
Luke has a strong customer base in South Australia, many returning to see his new work at each Bowerbird.
“My SA buyers are always keen to tell me their insect stories. Apparently there have been huge numbers of dragon flies over last summer in SA.”
When driving to Adelaide for Bowerbird, Luke likes to stop and stay in national parks, camping and taking time to appreciate the amazing wildlife.
“I’m a bit of a bird nerd. Last visit I had my first sighting of a wild pink cockatoo, so I look forward to more “firsts” next trip.”
Could birds be next to inspire Luke’s miniature wearable sculptures?
